Candy Shweder created Up-Island Pottery more than 35 years ago, throwing in her home studio on the island, and selling at the flea market in Chilmark, Martha’s Vineyard. She studied ceramics at Lill Street Studio in Chicago; Foothill College in Palo Alto, California; and The Palo Alto Art Center. Candy was designated an Illinois Artisan in 1995. Up-island Pottery has been featured in the Museum Shop of the American Craft Museum at both Rockefeller Center and Lincoln Center in New York City, and she was a member of Artisans 21, a cooperative gallery in Chicago, for over 30 years. In the summers, she can be found twice a week at the Artisans Festivals in West Tisbury, Martha’s Vineyard, and off-season by appointment.
